BACK(UNDER)GROUND
For those of you who DO know what you came here to look for...WHICH CHORONZON project were you seeking information about?

That's right, there isn't just one. (Although there IS one, and also, two. Which makes three. .)

Confusion reigns here, mayhaps, but what else did you expect?

You may have come here looking for sonic insanity released unto this world under this name, and find the identity of its creator different than expected.

This is natural, as more than one CHORONZON has existed on the noise-music grid, apparently for quite some time.

There's been a CHORONZON operating in San Francisco, an old-school industrial noise project (Demitria Monde Thraam) and a (completely unknown-to-her at time of the first one's inception) CHORONZON project of more recent and prolific activity with a unique style merging black metal, goth-rock and industrial noise, originating in Florida (P. Emerson Williams.)

Thraam's work had ended after a single release, Zero Divided by Infinity, a DIY cassette of which only nine copies were made and only six sold by consignment before a theft of a suitcase on a Greyhound bus caused its master tape to be lost forevermore.

Later on in the 1990s, several attempts to resurrect the project ended in failure when she found the newer MIDI software vexed her, and furthermore, the namesake entity, the presence of which she finds absolutely essential and central to the work, was either unable or unwilling to make its surging presence known at that time. Since this was a time when her long-term relationship with Deekoo L. was beginning, she didn't give it that much thought..

Then came 2001 and the years following. The steadily weirdening sociopolitical realities in her home country of the United States taking place in these years - omnipresent, affecting all or soon shall be, no matter how apolitical or apathetic, no matter how rich or poor - have been deeply disturbing to her, to say the very least.

The alarm bells started ringing in her head: a klaxon-call which served to awaken the connection between her and the namesake entity at last. She felt it begin to move within her again, getting the old powers back bit by bit. It awoke like magma slumbering under a subduction zone: the crust heaved, the sound of rocks grinding and things changing shape to accommodate the shift. (You might notice a recurring association between the namesake entity and seismic phenomena...it is a very strong connection, abetted by a rather astounding pattern of coincidence and circumstance.)

Ms. Thraam's CHORONZON (hereafter referred to as "Choronzon West" to allay SOME confusion) slowly began to rise out from its fifteen years' quietus as the implications of the madness of the methods of the neocon corporatist cabal, and its distressingly parafascist ideas and agendas were, day by day, seismically jarring DMT's psyche.

When the Internet connected her with one of the few individuals to have received one of the nine cassettes of Zero Divided By Infinity that were Choronzon West 's sole output, the signal grew yet stronger. She never thought she'd ever get to hear it again.

It was getting closer and closer to happening. Everything was pointing to it.

CHORONZON loves a good joke, and its favourites all involve paradox. it increased lucidity where once was only vexation. After leaving behind the old Mac and getting a PC attempts to understand music software could begin to happen in earnest, and did; the many new ideas relating to technomancy that had developed in the interim years were put to purpose. Choronzon began to stretch, wake up, heave itself into position, and to manifest, in small bursts, erratic inklings.

Around this time Monde was zipping thisaway and that on the internet one day and discovered that her CHORONZON was not the only one shouting a joyous noise unto the Void.

She was dumbstruck. Surely, though, hers had been first. She contacted P. Emerson Williams and told her story. He wrote her back and explained that his, too, was incepted in the middle of the 1980s. What remained to do?

Thankfully, there was no battle over the name...

The first Choronzon release as the two made one is New World Chaos, an epic two-part album in which one half was directed by Williams and the other half by Thraam; it seemed, though, as if the whole thing were directed by CHORONZON.

In essence, this is three projects: the two as individuals, and the mergence which is three. Since CHORONZON's number is 333 that sounds like Choronzonic math, most definitely.
